If you race ski's long enough you will eventually blow something. Well I guess I've officially put in my time. I was out for my first practice of the year in Dallas with Flyin' Brian. We had been practicing starts and then I went for a quick run across the lake to give him time to backdown the trailer. I had just reached the other side and about to turn around when my boat just died. I immediately thought my boat was filling with water because that had happened to me before. I turned on the bilge pump and began limping in. Unfortunately the wind was against me but I finally made it. Once in, my feet were completely numb from being in the freezing water for so long and Brian had to help me walk to the truck. We loaded the boat and headed back. He immediately went to investigate what had happened. He found a hole the size of a peanut in the top of one of my pistons...no more practicing for me. I was totally bummed because we were going to ride buoys the next day.
Once home Wade took the engine apart and confirmed the problem. Luckily only the pistons need to be replace. I should be up and running by next week. We assume the problem was bad fuel and/or the fact that I was running on a low tank. From now on I will pay much more attention to the fuel.
Despite the hassle I can't really complain too much because it is amazing that I was able to get this far without any problems. I have to complement Wade, my step-dad/mechanic, for that. THANKS Wade! |
